How To Prepare Your Home For Vacation

Serving Families Throughout Dallas
|

Whether you’re going on a short road trip, or a long vacation to a tropical island, there’s a list of things you have to do to get ready. One way to guarantee a stress-free trip is by doing everything possible for a smooth return. Here are a few ways to make sure your house is in order before you close that front door!

Pets – Give yourself peace of mind and leave detailed care instructions for your pet sitter or boarding facility. Make sure to keep out your pet’s favorite toys, treats, and beds to help make them feel more at ease while you’re away.

Kitchen – Check all expiration dates in your fridge and get rid of anything that will perish while you’re gone. Wipe away any spills and give your kitchen a good multi-surface cleaning so you don’t have to come home to a mess.

Lights – During a short trip, leave a few lights on throughout your home. This makes it look occupied and keeps away unwanted visitors. Alert your home-security service or a trusted neighbor just as a backup plan!

HVAC – Adjust your thermostat so that your HVAC system won’t waste any energy by running in an empty house. Texans should leave their thermostat to 78 degrees (F) in the summer and 68 degrees (F) in the winter.
