3 Steps To Light a Furnace Pilot Light

There’s nothing like cozying up and relaxing at home after a long work-week.

But not when it’s a long winter night...and you don’t have heat.

If you notice that your furnace isn’t heating your home, it could simply be that your pilot light is out (which can happen more frequently than you think).

3 Steps To Light a Furnace Pilot Light

1. Locate the Instructions Label on Your Furnace

There should be a label printed on your furnace with instruction, but it could be difficult to read. If so, look up your furnace model and number and read the instructions that way.

2. Find the Pilot Light and Components

There will either be a“Pilot,” “On,” or “Off” button near the bottom of your furnace. Find this switch andturn it off.

Wait at least five minutes.

This allows the gas to dissipate, which helps avoid a potential fire.

3. Relight the Pilot Light

Once your gas dissipates, turn the knob to “Pilot.”

Then, hold down the “Reset” button and bring a lighter flame to the pilot opening.

Once the pilot light is back on, release your pressure on the reset button.

If you followed the steps above and your pilot light still won’t light, there’s a problem with your furnace – contact a professional ASAP.

Other than the pilot light, we don’t suggest doing any furnace repair on your own.
