Types Of Home Cooling Systems

Serving Families Throughout Dallas
|

One thing every homeowner needs down south: an air conditioner. If you’re on the hunt for the right system for your home, read about these three popular units before you buy.

  • Central Air

Central air is designed to cool your entire home via air ducts. A compressor unit placed outside drive the process, and an indoor coil filled with refrigerant cools the air that’s then distributed. Central air conditioners are rated according to their seasonal energy efficiency (SEER), with 14.5 or higher being to best.

  • Room Air Conditioners

These units are available for mounting in windows or through walls. Both models work the same as central air with one exception, they only cool one room and not the whole house. Room AC units are only rated by EER (not seasonally measured) — the higher the EER, the more efficient the air conditioner.

  • Ductless Mini-Split- Air Conditioners

Mini-split systems use an outdoor compressor and an indoor air handling unit that needs to be in every room that you wish to cool. For houses without ductwork, this option is great — it avoids energy loss associated with central forced-air systems.
